“Green Radicals Claim Humanity Has Only 3 Years Left To Stop ‘Climate Apocalypse’: Fast Track To Disaster” – Zero Hedge, April 9
Essentially the alarm has been ardently and profitably promoted since Dr. James Hansen started pushing his personal concerns about “Global Warming” back in 1989. Previously the tout was fear of global cooling and Ice Ages.
Apocalypse Due to Ancient Pyramidic Scrolls and Scripture
The following ironical skit was written and performed by Alan Bennett, Peter Cook, Jonathan Miller and Dudley Moore. It had its start at the 1960 Edinburgh Festival and the link is to the best-selling 1962 LP recording “Beyond the Fringe”. Dudley Moore went on to an outstanding Hollywood career, with hit movies such as “10” and “Arthur”.
Moore is the performer repeating a key question:
The spoof could have been based upon the real hysteria about the end of the world that was promoted to susceptible audiences in the 1840s. Contrived by Baptist preacher William Miller’s personal visions of catastrophe, the mania erupted in America, spreading to Canada, England and Europe.
That the “End of the Earth” did not happen has been described as the “Great Disappointment”.
Whether in religious or political markets, hysteria is hysteria and promoters are promoters.
Bob Hoye (BobHoye.com) has been researching investments for decades, which eventually included the history of financial and political markets. He considers now to be the most fascinating time for both since the Great Reformation of the 1600s. Bob casts a caustic eye on all promotions and, having a degree in geophysics, is severely critical of the audacity that a committee can “manage” not just the economy, but also the temperature of the nearest planet. He has had articles published in major financial journals and, as a speaker, has amused assemblies in a number of cities, from London to Zurich to Tokyo.
