Big Rigs and the Maple Leaf

These are not insurrectionists, terrorists, racists, or whatever this week’s false label is. These are Canadians. Just regular Canadians. They love their nation. And with their trucks, speeches, good cheer, and flags, they are inspiring the world

It’s the flags that make the impact.

Sure, the sight of big trucks in convoy to demonstrate for freedom is impressive. And the festive atmosphere in Ottawa and the measured articulations by trucker leaders are memorable.

But the red and white Maple Leaf everywhere also makes a statement. Because, in these days of globalist groupthink, flag waving, like opposing vaccine mandates, should not be done.

Not in polite society, at least. It is just not done.

But it can’t be helped.

The Soviet Union falls and people in captive satellite counties bring out the old national flags they’ve hidden away. Drive through rural Canada or the U.S. where I live and routinely national flags fly from our front porches and front-yard flagpoles.

Of course, it’s a bit different in Quebec, where most home flags are provincial.  But it’s what we do. We identify with our land, with our people.

It’s in our blood, our DNA. Despite pressures from the Marxists, the social engineers, the one-worlders, and the petty elites of government, media, and academe. we are at heart…

…Can I say it?

We are at heart nationalists.

We love our countries.

Canada, the U.S., the U.K., France, Japan, and despite their governments, China and North Korea. We belong to nations and the nations are deep in our hearts.

They are inspiring the world

The elites know that. And hate it. That’s why the CBC must trot out veterans who are “saddened” to see the flag used for what they describe as political purposes.

Nonsense. The people of the nation are telling government functionaries that the government is not acting in the interest of not only a group of people, but of the nation itself. And to illustrate it, the people are raising the flag, perhaps as a reminder to the functionaries of what is actually being opposed.

It has been gratifying to see Canadians – by reputation among the politest people in the world – leading the nations in telling their government that it is wrong.

These are not insurrectionists, terrorists, racists, or whatever this week’s false label is.
These are Canadians. Just regular Canadians. They love their nation. And with their trucks, speeches, good cheer, and flags, they are inspiring the world. For that we love their nation, too.

And we thank them.
